Tour Windstorm Castle
THE CHAPEL
The Chapel in Windstorm is used by all of the inhabitants of the
Castle for confession, absolution and communion.
At times this tranquil place is a refuge for the weary traveler who
will sit quietly and ponder the passing of time. All are welcome to
enjoy this place as it is the house of the Lord.
Mass is held each morning and often, when members of each fraction
of defenses are in residence, the small Chapel is filled to
overflowing.
Marriages, Baptism and of course the inevitable funeral services
are held here within the sanctuary of the Chapel, bringing all
together to celebrate the lives of the people of Windstorm.
SERVANTS ROOMS
The day begins as the sun rises for many servants, the fires having
to be kept alight in order for hot water as well as heating.
The servants quarters being comfortable and dry but more sparsely
furnished than the guest rooms. Stools and a table where they can
socialize, a bed each and a chest where they keep their clothing.
Working and living in such close conditions often forges many
friendships and makes the heavy chores sometimes more bearable.
During the times the girls are not working, the ladies of the
Castle will teach them reading and writing if they so wish, also
the skills of embroidery and healing. The lads are often given the
enviable tasks of accompanying the Lords on hunting or falconry
pursuits, such being exciting but also dangerous recreation. Some
will become Squires and go on to hold the title of Knights, others
trained in other crafts and occupations.
The Castle being home to many servants and Nobles there is always
much to do by way of cooking and cleaning but there are always
great times for entertaining. The servants are allowed to share in
the festivities and partake in the feasts, having worked hard to
prepare them.
GUEST ROOMS
The guests of Windstorm enjoy lavishly furnished and decorated
rooms, hospitality being the cornerstone of our home. Each having a
bed and chest for clothing, chairs and a desk enable the guest some
privacy if needed. Furs beside the hearth and warm blankets and
quilts to keep the visitor comfortable. Candles will be lit as the
daylight fades and the fires kept burning at all hours. The linen
is clean and fresh weekly as are the guests towels. Refreshments
can be requested from the servants although the guests are
encouraged to eat in the Dining Room with their hosts so as to get
to know them and enjoy all that Windstorm has to offer.
KITCHENS
The kitchens are a busy part of the Castle where we find the
servants going about their chores throughout the day, although
still finding time to gossip and flirt with each other.
A constant supply of water is drawn from the well in the courtyard
whilst cauldrons of stew and soup simmer over the fires. Pork and
venison are spit roasted and vegetables prepared for dinner which
would be served at mid day, and supper later in the evening. Whilst
the daily bread is baking, local fish are prepared along with herbs
that are grown in our own gardens.
All the sights and sounds welcoming the visitor as he enjoys an ale
or goblet of wine whilst awaiting his meal.
COUNCIL AND MEETING ROOMS
The Council and meeting rooms of Windstorm are elegantly furnished
and comfortable, enabling the much needed discussions of the day to
day running of the Castle to take place.
Here you will find the council members making decisions and
planning the events of the forthcoming year, from the lavish
festivals, tournaments and marriages, to the smaller intimate
dinner gatherings and tea parties.
Such events take time and effort in their planning, as do the many
battles and strategic maneuvers of the Guards, Rangers and Lancers.
Who knows what goes on behind these heavy oak doors when the Queen
and her Captains are in residence there. Dare ye knock and
enter?
THE LIBRARY
The Castle library is home to the vast collection of scrolls and
books collected throughout the years. Many, quite rare and delicate
pages, holding the treasures of the past within them.
Comfortable and yet practical furnishings offer a quiet place for
reference or quiet and peaceful solitude for the residents, most of
whom can read and write.
Past suits of armour adorn the walls, as do the shields and weapons
of past battles, all of which add to the splendid atmosphere of
this room.
Among the scrolls are the many beautiful hand written and
illustrated volumes of the history of our lands, giving the reader
the insight of our wonderful home. All births, marriages and deaths
are painstakingly recorded here for future generations to read and
remember, knowing that Windstorm was built on the integrity and
honour of its loyal subjects
