History File: U.S.S. Archangel N.C.C. 73901

The U.S.S. Archangel, N.C.C. 73901, is the third Federation starship to bear the name; the ship's predecessors date back to the earliest days of the Federation itself and along with its rather distinguished service record, the ship also bears the distinction of belonging to a very small group of vessels that have never been lost in action.

The first vessel to bear the name was an Anton class Medium Frigate, N.C.C. 777, commissioned in 2235. It was initially designed as a test platform for various systems and warp propulsion units that would later be implemented on the larger Constitution class of starships that were in the design and testing phase during their construction; as such the Anton class was the first Federation vessel which was built as a modular system, making it easily upgradeable and interchangeable as newer systems were designed and tested.

This would prove to be the Anton classes greatest asset as the space frame could be easily modified as technology improved, keeping it up to date with the rest of the fleet and allowing it to continue its service life even long after the more specialized vessels were phased out of service. The Anton class would be upgraded a number of times during its service life and would outlive even the venerable Constitution class that it was designed to act as a test bed for, the ship would also serve as the basic design frame for the Miranda class of starship.

The first U.S.S. Archangel served in Starfleet for 52 years, the first 44 of which as a Medium Frigate. Its service record was extensive and the ship itself logged more combat hours than any ship in service to that point, to include the starship Enterprise. Four Captains would command the vessel during this period of time, including the legendary Commodore Elias Jenolan, who almost single-handedly repelled the Klingon incursion of 2267, which would mark the last major combat action of the vessel's career, and who would later have a ship class named after him.

HISTORIAN'S NOTE: This Incursion took place just prior to the Organian treaty being enforced and were considered the opening, and fortunately only shots to be fired during the war that never was. Never the less the Commodore scored no less than nine ships destroyed in under two hours of fighting, while only loosing three in his battle group.

It was after this battle and due to damages taken to the ship that Starfleet decided, in spite of the fact that the vessel had undergone major upgrades to its structure and systems only five years prior, that it would be reclassified as a Medical Frigate and removed from front line service.

In spite of this reclassification Commodore Jenolan remained in command throughout the remainder of the vessel's lifespan and even successfully lobbied to have the class renamed to 'Anton II Class' to reflect the radically different design that had evolved from the original space frame.

Commodore Jenolan would retire the vessel at the end of its 52 year service history in 2287 and take command of the second ship to bear the name, an Excelsior Class Heavy Cruiser, U.S.S. Archangel, N.C.C. 2777.  The original U.S.S. Archangel, N.C.C. 777 is currently housed at the Federation Fleet Museum in orbit of Memory Alpha.

The second ship to bear the name was commissioned on July the 7th 2292, nearly five years after the retirement of the first Archangel. It was the second Excelsior class starship built and the first to be designed minus the experimental transwarp drive system. Ironically, the ship was initially to be designated as the U.S.S. Enterprise, N.C.C. 1701-A and serve as the Excelsior's sister ship, but due to pending legal action against then Admiral James T. Kirk and pressure from Commodore Jenolan, the designation was changed prior to christening and launch.

Commodore Jenolan would command the new Archangel for an additional 10 years, eventually being promoted to the position of Starfleet's Chief of Naval Operations and then later the President of the United Federation of Planets. The ship itself would also have a similarly illustrious and long service life as well and whenever possible the CNO and later President would return to the vessel as often as possible.

The history of the ship would begin in a baptism by fire during the tense aftermath created by the destruction of the Klingon moon of Praxis that would set the mold for the vast majority of its operational career. Although a peace treaty was indeed formed and ratified at Khitomer, tensions increased and limited scale engagements broke out across the Klingon Federation boarder by those Klingons not willing to adhere to what they considered to be a destruction of their way of life. This would ultimately lead to what has been referred to as 'the three month war,' which of course then lead to the prolonged cold war that lasted for nearly 25 years between the two governments.

During this entire period of time the U.S.S. Archangel was the command flagship in charge of all operations and actions within the Klingon sphere of influence, seeing 7 regular commanding officers and no less than 4 temporary commanders during the period of time that the neutral zone was patrolled and enforced.

A number of commanders of note would command the U.S.S. Archangel during its operational lifetime, among them are: Fleet Admiral Lakota, who would later become the CNO of Starfleet Command and the person most directly responsible for the redesign of the Excelsior class of Starship to its present configuration, Admiral Hahn, who would later become the superintendent of Starfleet Academy, Admiral Mitsuya, who would later head Starfleet Operations, and a temporary commander who would later become one of the most famous war heroes in recent Federation history, Admiral William Ross.

The U.S.S. Archangel, N.C.C. 2777, ended its long career after serving through the Dominion war. It participated in nearly every major battle of the war to include both battles of Chintoka, the retaking of Deep Space 9, the Battle of Betazed and the push into Cardassia. In spite of various upgrades the space frame was deemed too old, and had taken too much damage during the war to be able to continue to serve and was decommissioned from active service two weeks after the war ended on July 7th 2375, the ship had served continuously for 83 years, far outliving every other vessel in its class and logging more space flight hours than any other vessel in Starfleet history.

Due to this extraordinary record of service the vessel was sent to the Federation Fleet Museum at Memory Alpha, where it sits in berth, in pristine condition, docked next to its Anton Class predecessor and namesake.

The third and final starship to bear the name is a Sovereign Class Heavy Cruiser, N.C.C. 73901. It was commissioned on July 7th 2383 and was first commanded by Captain Daniel Cortez, who since has been promoted to Admiral. Captain Jasen Kane now commands and is the ship's second Captain.

The vessel would enter service just after the short Romulan Federation war and her first missions are that of exploration into the former Romulan boarder areas that have been previously unexplored to this point.

The ship has been equipped with a number of experimental and new design systems, such as a Quantum Slipstream Drive and an artificial intelligence unit. It is hoped that the near legendary status of this vessel can be maintained while exploring this potentially hostile and new frontier as it continues to uphold the highest standards and traditions of the United Federation of Planets and boldly go where no one has gone before.

Welcome : Start Here / Starfleet Ship Positions
« Last post by Manda on July 29, 2015, 09:16:23 PM »
Please note that the following positions are the description for the Chief of one's department. Odds are your first assignment will be an assistant position. With an assistant position there is no difference except that you report to your division head and not the Captain or Executive Officer. Please also note these are guidelines only. Actual positions on your ship/starbase may vary due to staffing.

CAPTAINCOResponsibilities: The Captain is responsible for execution of Starfleet orders and policy, as well as for interpretation and compliance with Federation law and diplomatic directives. The Captain is the Commander of the ship.
Who to watch: James Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard, Benjamin Sisko, Kathryn Janeway
EXECUTIVE OFFICERXOResponsibilities: The XO is second in command and is responsible for execution of Starfleet orders and policy. He/she is the commander of the crew and makes command decisions according to Starfleet procedure. In the absence of the Captain, the XO is in command of the ship. When on the bridge the XO will work with department heads and relay suggestions to the Captain. The XO will lead 95% of away teams.
Who to watch: William T. Riker, Colonel Kira, Chakotay
OPERATIONS MANAGEROPSResponsibilities: A jack of all trades who does a bit of everything: runs sensor scans, can handle communications, monitors shipwide status and functions. Also can pilot the ship, arrange power distribution to major systems during emergency situations. They should monitor all happenings. Should coordinate with Helm, Engineering and Tactical and report any suggestions to the XO or Captain.
Who to watch: Data, Harry Kim, Jadzia Dax, Major Kira, Sulu
TACTICALTACResponsibilities: In charge of shipwide defense. Phasers, Photon Torpedoes, shields. Also tractor beams, Damage Reports, and Communications (Tactical can share these duties with the Ops Manager). Tactical Officers should be suspicious about every unknown vessel the ship comes in contact with.
NOTE: It is not unusual for ships to have officers serving as a combination of security/tactical.
Who to watch: Worf, Tuvok
SECURITYSECResponsibilities: All internal security on board. Responsible for handling intruders, supervising security on away teams, etc. The Security Officers should work on all aspects of security on the ship including registering weapons, upkeep of the brig, providing security for guests, etc.
NOTE: It is not unusual for ships to have officers serving as a combination of security/tactical.
Who to watch: Worf, Tasha Yar, Tuvok, Odo
HELMHELMResponsibilities: steers the ship. Can also handle sensors and monitor shipwide status (however that would usually fall under Ops or Tac). This position can be slow at times, so it is ok to work with Ops and Tactical in some situations. During times of high risk maneuvers it's a key position of the ship.
Who to watch: Tom Paris, Chekov
ENGINEERINGENGResponsibilities: The Engineers are the mechanics of the ship, they are responsible for all power generation, computer systems and propulsion systems. The engineers are the miracle workers of the ship, when the Captain asks for the impossible he looks to his engineers. They usually work in engineering but can work on the bridge at a computer console if necessary.
Who to watch: Scotty, Geordi la Forge, B'Ellana Torres
MEDICALMEDResponsibilities: Responsible for wellness of the crew and treating the injured. This is one of the hardest positions to play but it can also be the most recognized. The medical team should make sure that the crew is in good health by performing routine physicals. Medical personnel are almost always in sick bay but will frequently go on away team missions, especially when casualties are reported.
Who to watch: 'Bones' McCoy, Beverly Crusher, Julian Bashir, The Doctor (EMH)
SCIENCESCIResponsibilities: Using sensor readings, tricorders, and other data, they analyze anything the ship or crew may encounter. This position is the most creative, especially when encountering unknown substances and species. Science can also get a little slow in some situations so the Science Officers should coordinate their work with Ops and Engineering.
Who to watch: Jadzia Dax, Data
COUNSELORCNSLResponsibilities: Responsible for the well being of the crew members. While the Medical Officer is responsible for the physical aspect of the crew; the Counselor is responsible for the mental health of the crew. They usually (not always) have some sort of empathic or telepathic abilities. This position can be very dramatic and interesting. The Counselor will be the most busy when communicating with other species working with the Captain and advising him on what he/she senses. Some ships may assign their counselors a secondary post.
Who to watch: Deanna Troi, Ezri Dax

  • Models with Member or [NPC] are claimed models if they do NOT have a color by them then the player has not finished a bio and has no claim to the model.
  • No Claims of Confirmed Models Will Be Accepted Without Permission from that Player And the Okay from a member of the room staff
  • You can only  claim a model for your own character and not for someone else.
  • Put first and last names of both the character and model in your post.
  • Release a model if you change models and post the name of the character. And put this information in a new post or a reply to your original post, to get it registered. Otherwise it will be missed.
  • Must have submitted a bio on the character, before any model claim is finalized, I repeat!

Quote

Regarding Model Claims
While no member will be permitted to use another's claim without that persons permission given directly to staff, this by no means indicates that a Guest coming in to check out the room should be told they have to change their model. The claim is for people who have posted bios with the intention of gaining membership to Archangel or its Subroom Continuing voyages. This means no other Member of the room will be using this model for their exclusive character without an okay by the person claiming the Model. This does not mean that the model is claimed for the entirety of Roleplay Oasis or from use of others not yet members of Archangel.

I have noticed a disturbing trend. It seems everyone is wanting to play characters who have deep seeded psychological issues. Some to the point where they should be put in a rubber room with a straight jacket on.

THIS HAS TO STOP

Here is why

First off. To Enter Starfleet you undergo a battery of psychological evaluations along with physical exams. If you cant pass these you don't get in PERIOD. End of story.

Second part of being a Starfleet officer you are exposed to weird stuff this is why we have counselors. They are trained psychologists if you go space happy they will relieve you of duty and transfer you to a facility where they are going to work on your deep seeded problems.

Now we have people cutting themselves, being cruel to people or animals, blacking out IN PUBLIC. No this isn't going to be allowed. so get it out of your heads. you want to be crazy enough that they wont be fit for duty you are going to be removed from the ship. That's it game over.

so here is how it is from now on. New Characters you are sane. Don't try to out-crazy everybody it causes more grief than any character is worth.

To the people who are already being a little nuts we are going to give an out for it where this recent rash of insanity can be explained away . after that Let it go. Don't go back there its not worth the grief it is going to bring to so many people when you will end up changing characters. We have a ship with 700 people on board. There are enough opportunities for personality conflicts without having to resort to daily brawls or psychotic behavior.

Thank you
